Custom Apparel Printing Methods: Screen Print, Embroidery, Sublimation & DTF
All the ways we customize your apparel.
The Right Method Makes All the Difference
Custom apparel isn’t one-size-fits-all. The way a design is applied to a garment can affect everything from durability and texture to color and overall appearance.
Below are some of the most common imprint methods we use.
Screen Printing
The gold standard for bold, durable apparel graphics.
Screen printing is one of the most popular and reliable ways to decorate apparel. Ink is pushed through a screen directly onto the garment, creating vibrant colors and a smooth, long-lasting print that holds up wash after wash.
This method is ideal for larger orders and designs with solid colors. It’s commonly used for t-shirts, sweatshirts, team apparel, event merchandise, and branded company gear.
At Atlantic Sportswear, every screen print job is handled by our in-house team in Portland, Maine and carefully inspected before it leaves our shop. The result is crisp prints, consistent colors, and apparel people actually want to wear.
Embroidery
Clean, professional branding that stands the test of time.
Embroidery uses stitched thread to create a textured design directly on the garment. The result is a polished, high-end look that works especially well for polos, jackets, hats, and workwear.
It’s a great choice when you want your logo to feel durable, refined, and built to last.
Our team digitizes each design to ensure clean stitching and proper placement, and every embroidered piece is checked by hand before delivery. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference when your brand is on display.
Sublimation
All-over color with no added texture.
Sublimation is a process where heat transfers dye directly into the fabric, becoming part of the material itself rather than sitting on top of it. This allows for vibrant, full-color designs that won’t crack, peel, or fade.
Because the dye bonds directly with the fabric, sublimation works best on light-colored polyester garments and is commonly used for performance apparel and fully customized designs.
The result is a lightweight, breathable finish with unlimited color possibilities.
Direct-to-Film (DTF)
Flexible printing for detailed, full-color designs.
Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing allows us to print high-detail, full-color graphics onto a transfer film that is then heat applied to the garment. This method works across a wide range of fabrics and is ideal for smaller runs or designs with lots of color and detail.
DTF gives us the flexibility to produce vibrant graphics without the setup required for traditional screen printing.
When a project calls for flexibility, fast turnaround, or complex artwork, DTF can be an excellent solution.
Not Sure Which Method Is Right?
You don’t need to have it all figured out before you reach out.
Our team reviews every project and recommends the imprint method that best fits your design, garment choice, and timeline. Sometimes that means screen printing. Sometimes it’s embroidery, DTF, or another approach.
The goal is simple: choose the method that makes your apparel look its best and last the longest.
